Dr. Dissanayake who has served on the UN/UNCTAD Panel as an expert on Ports & Shipping is a Past Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (Sri Lanka Branch), Past Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (Sri Lanka branch) and a Past Chairman of the Central Advisory Council of Sri Lanka Transport Board. He is also a past Chairman of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce-Steering Committee on Ports, Shipping, Aviation and Logistics.
He was elected as the First Non-British International President of the Institute of Chartered (2016-2018) Shipbrokers U.K. Since the appointment of the Institutes’ first President Sir Thomas Lain Devin Devitt in 1913, all Presidents have been British nationals.
Dr. Dissanayake who is a Professor in Maritime Studies at the Shanghai Maritime University and Dalian Maritime University has obtained his MBA/PhD and qualified as a Fellow Member (FCIM) U.K., is the first Sri Lankan to have obtained both the highest Chartered qualifications in Shipping (FICS/Chartered Shipbrokers) U.K., and Transport & Logistics (Chartered Fellow Logistics and Transport) U.K. He is also the only individual to chair both the highest professional bodies in the Maritime and Transport Logistics sectors in Sri Lanka. (Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (U.K.) and Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (U.K.) Sri Lanka branch.
Dr. Dissanayake who was conferred with the Asian Brand Leadership award by CMO Asia is a University of Oxford Business Alumni, Graduate of Harvard Business School (EEP) on “Global Economy” and a Fellow of NORAD, JICA and University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
Some of the awards conferred on him include, Best Shipping Personality by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Distinguish Services to Society by PIMA of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Contribution to Shipping Industry by Ceylon Association of Ships Agents, Justice of Peace all Island by the Government of Sri Lanka. On the diplomatic front, he is the Honorary Consul General for the Republic of Fiji Islands in Sri Lanka.
